Our CEO - Abas Miskarli engages with Next Generation: Interview with ADA University Students
1. How do you define your leadership style and how has it evolved?
Well, back in the day, I used to be a bit of a control freak, trying to do everything myself. But now, I've learned to chill out and trust my team more. I like to mix it up with a bit of democracy and a dash of bossiness when needed. I always make sure to listen to everyone's ideas before making a decision, though.
2. How important is emotional intelligence in your leadership style, and what steps do you take to enhance it?
Emotional intelligence is super important to me. It's all about building trust and getting along with your team. I try to keep things real by building strong relationships, being there for my team, and sorting out any dramas in a positive way.
3. What core values guide you in your leadership role?
I'm all about honesty, when it comes to leading, I like to keep it real. Honesty is my number one rule – being straight up with my team builds trust, you know? Then there's integrity – doing what's right, even if it's not easy. And let's not forget empathy – putting myself in my team's shoes helps me make fair calls. These values are like my North Star, keeping me on track in this crazy world of leadership.
4. What problems have you encountered in leading different groups, and how have you overcome them?
Oh guys, communication breakdowns have been a real headache at times. Different groups can have their own way of doing things, which can lead to misunderstandings. I've found that clear communication and being upfront about expectations can really help smooth things over.
5. In what ways do you encourage trust and credibility as a leader?
Trust is everything, right? I like to give my team the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them. No shaming allowed! When people feel safe to take risks, their credibility grows, and they become more confident in their abilities.
6. What have been some of the most effective methods you've used to build a cohesive team?
It's all about getting everyone on the same page. I start by laying out the company's game plan and showing how each team fits into the big picture. Being upfront and transparent about goals and expectations, and also, creating fair KPI system keeps everyone motivated and working towards the same goals.
7. What strategies do you use to inspire and motivate your team?
I like to celebrate wins, big or small, to keep everyone pumped up. Plus, I'm big on offering opportunities for growth and learning. It's all about keeping things positive and giving everyone a chance to shine.
8. What strategies do you use to manage conflict and maintain harmony within your team?
Conflict is bound to happen, but I try to keep things chill by encouraging open communication and really listening to what everyone has to say. Finding solutions that work for everyone is key to keeping the peace.
9. How do you approach decision-making, especially under pressure, in your leadership role?
When things get hectic, I rely on data and input from my team to make informed decisions. We weigh the options, brainstorm ideas, and work together to find the best solution. It's all about keeping a cool head and trusting your instincts.
10. Who has been the most significant mentor in your leadership journey and what key lessons have you learned from them?
You know, I've been lucky to have some awesome bosses along the way. Each one had their own style, from being super creative to being a total go-getter. They taught me the importance of thinking outside the box, building a strong team, having patience, and being open to new opportunities. Also, I have many friends who are entrepreneurs or top managers, we also share our vision and ideas during our coffee sometimes. So, I can’t separate one from another, because they've all been major players in shaping me into the leader I am today.
